Introduction: About Me

Hi, my name is Kristen Ritchie.  I’m twenty two years old and a senior English-writing major at OU.  I’m am from a small town in southern Oklahoma and come from a big Italian family.  I have two sisters (I’m the middle child) and a niece who turns seven next month.  Since I did grow up with her, our relationship is more like sisters and I’m waiting for the day she grows tall enough to be taken to Six Flags.  I love playing video games, which is what I enjoyed most over the break because I find no time for it during the semester.  To be honest, I would rather get more sleep than play games.

I love television.  Some of my favorite shows are RuPaul’s Drag Race, Taboo, River Monsters, The Golden Girls, Bridezillas and basically any show that involves graphic surgery.  A few kids’ shows that I only grew to love because my niece forced me to watch them a thousand times are Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse and Monster High.  Other than television, I watch YouTube daily.  One of my favorite YouTube personalities is the AngryJoeShow.  I definitely recommend him if you are into video games.  I also love movies.  Some of my favorite movies are the Jurassic Park franchise, Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai, and WALL-E

This past winter break was pretty hectic for me.  I went on vacation to Mexico before Christmas and arrived back home on Christmas Eve.  I also went to a few Christmas parties before my trip, which was not a good idea because now I feel like I never got any rest over the break.  On top of being social, my neighbor’s house got robbed while I was home which was pretty scary and my mom got sick on top of all that.  My break was up and down.  Now, I’m just looking forward to Spring Break.

I’m excited to get this semester into gear because I graduate in May.

  1. Hi Kristen! One thing that we have in common is that I graduate in May, also! I am super excited! I grew up in a small town in Texas. I am also very close to my niece who is seven, but I don't get to see her often since I live so far away from her. Sorry about your neighbor's house. That is so sad! I hope that your semester goes really well and that you enjoy your last semester!

  2. Hi, Kristen! Sounds like you had a busy break. I am also looking forward to Spring Break, only 55 more days! And I like your taste in movies. I love Wall-E! And Jurassic Park is great. I read the book this summer, and I liked it a lot. I'm looking forward to Jurassic World coming out with Chris Pratt. Anyway, good luck with your last semester!

  3. Hey Kristen! It is always great to meet another gaming fan! I am also a giant gamer! I hate that during the semester there is hardly anytime to actually get into much gaming. That is awesome you got to go to Mexico over break! I have been to Cozumel and Progresso before and I loved it! I definitely would go back again! I hope your final semester goes great!!

  4. Oh, how nice to meet an English-writing major, Kristen! Wonderful! I hope this class can be a chance for you to experiment with different kinds of writing, just trying out different things that you have not had a chance to explore in your other classes. And it just made me smile to see WALL-E there. That has to be one of the most ingenious movies I have ever seen... especially the first part of the movie, telling a story without words: brilliant. Although it is a completely different kind of movie, I was also amazed by All Is Lost for how it told a story without words. As a totally verbal person, I am so impressed at how people can find other ways to make stories happen. I'm still so irked that All Is Lost did not win more Academy Awards last year that I do not even want to watch the Awards this year, ha ha. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the class and have some great writing adventures! :-)

  5. Hi Kristen! I can really relate to what you said in your introduction. I have three sisters, one twin sister, one older, and a younger sister who is eight. So it sounds like we grew up in pretty much the same situation. There were a lot of girls and a lot of estrogen. My favorite book is Jurassic Park so I was delighted to hear that you enjoy the movies. I have actually never seen the movies (weird I know) but I have read the book many many times. I would definitely recommend it if you enjoyed the movies :) Good luck!

  6. Hi Kristen! Even though your winter break was hectic, it sounds like a blast for the most part. I absolutely love warmer weather and the beach, and I have heard there are places that can be so beautiful. That is so crazy that your neighbors got robbed. That would be scary. I also am a senior this year, and although, I am excited to get this semester over with, I'm also so nervous for it to end. Good luck!

  7. Hey Kristian,

That's awesome that you have a great relationship with your niece. I love sleep probably just as much as you do, and I spent all my time before going to California playing video games. Mexico must be awesome, especially when leaving Oklahoma! I hope things are settling now that school is starting to get into a groove! Good luck with your future endeavors!

  8. Hey Kristen! Congrats on Graduation this semester! I see that you like to play video games. What are some of your favorites? Or do you play on a console or computer? I can;t believe your neighbors house got robbed. That is scary, but I'm glad everything is okay. I am looking forward to reading your stories this semester!

    1. I play on a computer, but I play a variety of games. As far as favorites go, that's a hard question. I grew up playing Doom so I love that game, but I recently played Tomb Raider, and it was great. I loved every minute of that game.

  9. Congrats on graduating in May! I am also graduating and it is such as bittersweet feeling...I think it is so great that you are close with your family, especially your sisters and your niece. Six Flags is so much fun, and I know your niece will love it when she gets tall enough to go! I also would rather get sleep than anything else, as it seems sleep is rare during the busy semesters at OU. I haven't heard or seen most of the shows you mentioned you watch, but I love Jurassic Park! I'm excited for the new movie to come out! Hope this semester goes well for you!

  10. Hi Kristen! Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! I also graduate in May and I am very much looking forward to it, but I am also going to miss it here at OU! I love Six Flags! I am from California, so I have only ever been to the Six Flags there, but I hope to someday head out to Six Flags Over Texas! That is awesome that you had a jam-packed winter break and that you got to go to Mexico!

  11. Kristen,

it's nice to meet you! Thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself. I have never been much of a gamer, but I think it can be a great way to unwind and have fun. What kinds of video games do you like to play? When I was younger, I used to love watching my brothers play because it was the only time they'd let me hang out with them! If it was Mario Kart or Mario Party, they'd even let me play ;) haha. Now I still enjoy watching friends play - usually CoD. I don't know why!

I am also from a big Italian family! I am one of six and am kind of in the middle, as well. Just recently someone said to my mom, "Imagine, if you hadn't had six kids, you would be so rich by now!" Hahah what an odd thing to say to someone. Anyways, I wouldn't trade all the money in the world for my family. I hope your semester is going well!

  12. Hey Kristen!

It’s nice to meet you! First let me say congratulations on graduating in May! That’s awesome! I really can’t wait to graduate. I think it is cool that you are so close to your niece because that will be a special bond to her when she gets older. I am also from a large Italian family, which I LOVE, it makes life so much better! I love The Golden Girls, it was one of my favorite shows when I was younger. I also love the movie WALL-E! I hope your semester goes well!

  13. Hi Kristen,
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. The Jurassic Park franchise is great. I bet you are looking forward to the new one that’s coming out. I love Six Flags so much. I remember when I was a little kid I was too short to ride the cool roller coasters. So my dad and I stuffed the inside of my shoes with socks so I could get an extra couple of inches... well it worked haha. Good luck with your final semester!

  14. Kristen, that is awesome that you are an English major. I'm a European History major, but looking back I would have loved to be an English major. I have a niece as well, but she is only one and a half. I'm sure I will soon have to sit through kids movies too. I have never been to Six Flags. I'm not a big fan of heights, so roller coasters really freak me out! Good luck with everything!

  15. Kristen. Nice to meet you! It is really cool that you are an English major! I am not really good at writing so I envy people like you. I also like watching TV and Wall-E is one of my favorite character. It is really amazing how you get to go on trips every break because I usually stay home. Good luck with your final semester here at OU! :)

  16. Hi Kristen! Good News, you made it to spring break!!! Glad I’m not the only one that tries to fit youtube videos into my daily schedule. Watch any of the family vloggers?
Now I totally want to go watch Wall-E!! Also I can totally agree on the I’d rather sleep then do anything else thing. I bet you are excited to graduate! Hope you have a great spring break!

  17. Kristen,

I used to play video games when I was a lot younger (although we are talking Wii and Gamecube…so I’m not sure they count). I grew away from them due to sports and college. However, I was visiting one of my old friends and we started playing a cute kid game on his Playstation and it was complete nostalgia for me! I started wishing I had more time to play…maybe when I start working and don’t have to worry so much about studying.

Hope your spring break was nice!

  18. Hi, Kristen! What a coincidence, my roommate is also an English major! Omg, I just watched Bridezillas recently on Netflix. It was so crazy how much the blonde girl at the end changed in her appearance and style. Woah, your Christmas break sounded crazy! Hopefully spring break was a lot better for you! Congratulations on graduating in May! Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
